Take-home pay calculator

Enter your salary to see what actually lands in your bank each month, after Income Tax and National Insurance. Add a student loan plan or pension for a closer estimate, with a separate option for Scotland's tax bands.

🔒 Runs entirely in your browser, nothing is uploaded or saved. Figures for the 2026/27 tax year (source: GOV.UK and gov.scot). Estimate for guidance only, not financial or tax advice.

How to use it

  1. Type your gross salary (the figure before any deductions) and choose whether it's yearly, monthly or weekly.
  2. Pick where you live, Scotland has different Income Tax bands to the rest of the UK.
  3. Add a student loan plan and a pension percentage if they apply to you.
  4. Press Calculate to see your take-home pay a month, a year and a week, with a full breakdown of each deduction.

What the figures are based on

The calculator uses the 2026/27 tax year rates published by GOV.UK and, for Scotland, gov.scot: the £12,570 Personal Allowance (tapered above £100,000), Income Tax bands, and Class 1 employee National Insurance (8% between the primary threshold and the upper earnings limit, 2% above). Student loan repayments use the current Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 and Postgraduate thresholds. A pension figure is treated as a salary-sacrifice contribution that reduces the pay you're taxed on.

It's an estimate for guidance only, not financial or tax advice. Your actual payslip can differ, for example if you have a company benefit, a different tax code, or a workplace pension set up in another way. For anything important, check with your employer or HMRC.
